Surely one of the first things that a girl envisions when they get engaged is finding THE dress. That was definitely the case for me…it was the day I had been dreaming about since I was a little girl and a priority to get organised after Tim popped the question.
Pinpoint Your Style
Before I booked appointments, I spent HOURS on Pinterest to see what sort of styles I was drawn to. I certainly had a particular type of dress in mind. For extra inspiration, I attended fashion shows at wedding exhibitions to check out dresses and designers too. This gave me a good idea for what I might like to try on when going to appointments, at least as a starting point.
The ‘Perfect’ Day
Soon after, I made appointments at some wedding dress shops in the area. My first appointment was at Perfect Bridal with Emma. I had previously met Emma at fashion events, and she instantly made me feel at ease. My mum and some of my bridesmaids came with me, and as soon as we arrived, we were made to feel special. A bottle of fizz was opened, and we began to chat with Emma about what sort of styles I would like to try and showed her some of my pinned photos.
Straight away, she showed me some dresses that she thought tied into the style I was looking at. I tried on the first two, and although they were beautiful gowns, it became apparent that the styles I had been looking at didn’t seem to do anything for me – I just didn’t get the feeling that either of them was ‘The One'! My bride tribe had made cards to hold up to show their opinion – and although they liked them too, they weren’t sold!
Third Time Lucky…
Emma then showed me a dress that she thought would be perfect for me. It was nothing like what I had imagined I would wear – a slight wildcard. It was by one of my favourite designers though, and I had a very open mind so wanted to try it. The minute I put it on, I cried! It was the perfect fit and suited me so much more than I thought it would when looking at it on the hanger.
When I revealed the dress to my entourage, they loved it just as much as I did. My mum was in floods of tears which I can only take as a good sign! I can honestly say, I have never felt so amazing in a dress as I did when I put that gown on. Emma then added some finishing touches and I was blown away, I am genuinely so excited to wear my dress on the big day.
Being as fussy as I am, I never thought I would be saying ‘Yes to the Dress' after the third gown, but I just knew I would never find anything else that would make me feel the same way. I cannot recommend Emma at Perfect Bridal enough. She made the whole experience such a memorable one and her knowledge of bridal gowns is second to none. She will pick out styles you have been looking at. However, she will also be able to find you things that you would never pick out for yourself but will suit you and your body shape. I can’t wait to get back for my fittings (the diet starts now)!
The Perfect Ending
To finish off a lovely afternoon, we went to Mal Maison for some champagne and a delicious afternoon tea to celebrate. I think I’m still in shock that I had managed to make a decision that quickly (probably not as shocked as my bridal party though).
This will definitely be one of the wedding memories that stays with me, and it really was the ‘Perfect Day'!
Next month, we will cover the hair and make-up!
The Future Mrs Jones x
- Allow ten months before the wedding for bridal appointments as some gowns can take a long time to arrive. Bear this in mind if you want to have your pick of designers and dresses
- Do some research, so you have ideas in mind for going to appointments, but also try to be open-minded about what you are going for, try on different styles and wild cards as you never know, it may just be the perfect fit!
- Ultimately, the dress has to make you feel absolutely amazing – it sounds cliché, but you will know when you put the dress on if it is the one for you. Take guidance from your entourage, but listen to your gut and think about how it makes you feel first and foremost.
